If you have a lot of cavities, or easily get cavities, you need to make a lifestyle change. It is your responsibility to make sure the environment around your teeth are not favorable for the bacteria to cause cavities. Here are a few ideas that can help!
Brush your teeth twice a day. Make sure that you brush in the right way to clean thoroughly and effectively, and to clean all the surfaces of your teeth. When we brush, we disrupt the formation of plaque and therefore keep the bacteria and the acids they produce away from our teeth.
Use toothpaste and a mouthrinse that contains fluoride. The fluoride can help prevent and remineralise small cavities.
Try not to eat sugary foods frequently. Try not to snack between meals. If you don’t feed the bacteria inside plaque, they cannot produce the acid that causes the cavities. If you eat sugary foods too frequently, you don’t give your saliva the chance to repair the damage caused by the acids.
Visit your dentist every 6 months for a thorough examination, cleaning, and to place fluoride on your teeth, to catch cavities while they are still small.
